TipJar, the Ethereum service (ETH) that allowed redditories to send each other micropayments in Ether and ERC-20 tokens, was closed on 7th October. Its website is still operational but will be closed on 10 April 2020.
In a Reddit ad published on the same day, the developer TipJar cited "very low activity on the bot" as the main reason for the closure. It also called on users to withdraw their already deposited funds as soon as possible via the TipJar website.
The creator of TipJar also noted that "he has been paying monthly server fees for several years and although they are quite minimal, at this point it does not make much sense" to continue financing a service that sees little interest from users.
Recently, this feeling has also been repeated by the team behind the altcoin Coinexchange.io trading platform. As reported by Cointelegraph on October 2, the stock exchange is closing its doors due to low trading volumes and financial difficulties.
Moreover, according to Coinexchange's official announcement, "the cost of providing the required level of security and support now exceeds its profits".
