The largest bank in Scandinavia can prohibit employees from owning a crypto

A Danish court ruled that the Scandinavian financial services giant Nordea could prohibit its employees from owning Bitcoin (BTC) and other digital currencies.

According to BNN Bloomberg in its report of 3 December, the court justified this restriction by referring to the alleged risk associated with cryptographic currencies. However, the ruling did not apply to financial instruments relating to digital currencies which Nordea sold to customers, or to any cryptographic currencies in which employees could have invested prior to the restriction.

A Danish trade union of financial sector employees in Denmark brought an action against Nordea, claiming that the prohibition interfered with the personal lives of the employees. Kent Petersen, trade union chairman.

Nordea initially announced its intention to ban its employees from having a cryptographic currency at the end of January 2018. As Nordea is the largest bank in Scandinavia, this means that the law means that 31,500 people are moving away from investing in cryptographic currencies.
