A bronze image of legendary Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto is now on display for visitors to Graphisoft Park in Budapest.
At an unveiling ceremony on Thursday, András Győrfi, co-founder of the statue project and editor of cryptocurrency news site Kripto Akademia, spoke to a crowd of journalists and Hungarian residents before revealing Satoshi's shining face. The sculpture shows the upper half of the figure with a featureless face wearing a hoodie with the Bitcoin ( BTC ) logo.
"Whoever he was, Bitcoin creates value, and especially the technology behind Bitcoin, blockchain, creates value," Győrfi said.
Debreczeni Barnabás, CEO of Hungarian crypto exchange Shinrai, also spoke at the ceremony, adding:
"Satoshi Nakamoto created independent money free from intermediaries that gives people financial sovereignty [...] We erected this statue to remind ourselves that courage is a virtue. We must continue to dream."
First announced in May, the sculpture created by sculptors Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly was intentionally designed with a mirrored face to apparently express the idea of "we are all Satoshi" to viewers. Mr. Coin, Kripto Academy, Blockchain Hungary Association and Blockchain Budapest supported the "Satoshi Statue" project.
