More ransomware attacks

Educational services around the world are witnessing a sharp increase in attacks on ransomware in 2020. According to Verizon's 2020 Data Breach Investigation Report, attacks on ransomware account for about 80% of all cyber attacks.

Data suggests that 92% of these incidents were financially motivated, while only 3% were aimed at spying on educational companies.

Attacks on ransomware are growing at an alarming rate. Today, accounting for the overwhelming majority of all cyber-attacks, the ransom represented only 48% of the total in 2019. Phishing is partly to blame here - attacks using ransomware are more frequent via fake websites than via e-mail.

The Verizon report also says that attackers don't even have to do the job themselves - they can rent malware as a service. Furthermore, Verizon states that many companies still have a significant lack of protection against software ransomware, which also explains the growth.
