Hacker attack on crypto mining sites

Yesterday, security researcher KrebsOnSecurity reported that several crypto platforms supported by the popular hosting provider Godaddy were attacked in the last week.

According to KrebsOnSecurity, the attacks started on or around November 13th on the cryptocurrency liquid.com trading platform.

liquid.com's CEO Mike Kayamori said that GoDaddy incorrectly transferred control of the account and domain to a malicious actor.

Kayamori added that this transfer allowed the malicious actor to change his DNS records and thus take control of several internal email accounts. Additionally, the malicious entity could partially penetrate liquid.com's infrastructure and gain access to document storage.

Social engineering, in which the attacker impersonates users in order to deceive administrators, turned out to be a popular tool for criminals looking for crypto pilfer wealth.
