Euro 2020 with NFT

The German Football Association (DFB) has officially announced the debut of national nonfungbile tokens (NFT) in partnership with blockchain-based big fantasy game provider Sorare.

As part of the official licensing agreement, the DFB will create digital collector cards on the Ethereum blockchain of 18 players from the German national team via the Sorare platform. According to Sorare's announcement, the cards will be available for use in Sorare's Global Fantasy Football game during the Euro 2020 soccer championship.

By releasing NFT cards to players on the Sorare platform, the DFB is trying to find new revenue streams as well as provide more opportunities for fan engagement, especially since COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in limited game attendance in recent months.

"Particularly in the Corona pandemic, digital offerings were and are the only way to exchange directly with our fans. But while we hope that the Corona crisis will soon be over, we want to continue to use the digital opportunities more intensively, also with our partners, and offer our fans new interactive possibilities," said Holger Blask, managing director of marketing DFB. and sales.

Sorare, founded in 2018, is a global fantasy football game that allows users to play with officially licensed digital cards featuring 140 football clubs, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG. Last week, the French Football Federation launched its own NFT tournament series ahead of the team's match against Germany.
