Chinese technology giant with a Blockchain patent

Chinese technology giant Huawei recently filed a new patent application related to blockchain technology, which concerns storage methods and devices. Huawei holds a number of other important patents, including blockchain-based settlement methods.

According to the Chinese corporate database, Tianyancha, a smartphone manufacturer, filed a patent on 17 January 2019 for 'blockchain-based storage and recording devices'. The date of the announcement of the application at that time was set at 14 July.

The Nanshan District government in Shenzhen had previously announced a partnership with Huawei to increase the adoption of blockchain, large data, artificial intelligence and 5G in the region by establishing a Kunpeng industrial demonstration zone.

Huawei also signed a "strategic cooperation agreement" with People's Bank of China, or PBoC, but details were kept secret.

This cooperation was implemented shortly after PBoC started testing its digital currency in Shenzhen, in cooperation with Huawei.

In April, over 100 well-known companies, both domestic and foreign, joined the Blockchain Innovation Alliance in China. Members include Inspur, Tsinghua Unigroup, Huawei, IBM, Tencent, Alibaba and Baidu, as announced.
