China: blockchain helps to restore tourist traffic

The Chinese non-profit consortium FISCO BCOS reports that blockchain-based health data has successfully enabled China to resume continental tourism to Macao.

Since May, the blockchain-based medical data system in Macao recognizes the identification codes of the Guangdong healthcare system on the mainland, allowing tourists from mainland China to verify their health status using the DLT system when entering the autonomous region.

To date, more than 17 million tourists have cleared customs controls between Macao and mainland China using Macao's blockchain health code. The announcement boasts that it only takes 100 seconds to generate the Guangdong health code for the first time in Mainland China and about three seconds for future health verification for customs travel.

The Macao Health Code system was introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in the suspension of travel from Mainland China in January.
