Blockchain Company to help the Cashmere Industry

Convergence.tech in Toronto has successfully completed a blockchain-based pilot project to help Mongolian nomadic shepherds track and certify sustainable cashmere.

The supply chain project, which was conducted in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is supported by the traceability platform Convergence.tech based on Ethereum, Backbone.

As part of its pilot project, Convergence.tech decided to focus on cashmere breeding as many of these people face difficult working conditions and income instability. In addition, there is a lack of transparency in the fashion supply chain, making it difficult for consumers to understand where cashmere products come from.

To address the lack of transparency in the cashmere industry, Convergence.tech has developed a mobile application for Android devices. The application allowed farmers to register their cashmere bales. At the same time, the bales and carton boxes were equipped with radio frequency identifiers to track data to ensure product location.

The data tracking in combination with Backbone's blockchain technology allowed users to see the path the cashmere had taken during its production cycle. Users were also able to view environmental impact data generated to ensure that ethical cashmere is a source of raw cashmere.
