Blockchain based driver's licenses

Enterprise blockchain Iconloop has obtained approval from the South Korean Ministry of Science and Information Technology to test its decentralized identity, the DID, a technological system for managing driver's license data in the country.

According to the company's announcement, the test aims to demonstrate the DID's ability to store data securely while preventing forgery.

Commenting on the project, CEO Iconloop Jonghyup Kim noted that the company's DID platform allows users to better manage their personal data directly from the Zzeung cell phone application instead of using physical driver's license cards. App is also said to give users more control over their personal data.

Iconloop's DID test comes at a time when the number of people adopting digital identity among South Koreans is increasing. In August 2020, there were reports that 1 million South Korean citizens already hold blockchain licenses.
