Blockchain and wine

Chinese technological giant Tencent has revealed its plan to create a wine tracking platform based on blockchain in cooperation with Changyu, China's largest and oldest wine producer, according to local news on 31 July. It is said to be the first nationwide project for the country's wine industry.

According to Changyu, this platform aims to track every stage of the wine production and marketing process, including planting, brewing, distribution and management. A unique certificate will be issued for each bottle of wine it produces, which can be traced.

The entire process will be registered in the Blockchain network. Scannable QR codes of the company's bottles will allow consumers to verify the authenticity of the wine. The QR code will also present a whole set of data, such as information about grape types, origin, rainfall level, temperature.

The block network will allegedly help distributors and outlets to catch counterfeit bottles and identify bottles that have not passed quality control tests.
