Bitcoin in Tobacco Shops in France

French startup Keplerk has relaunched its Bitcoin Payment Acceptance (BTC) service in more than 5,200 tobacco shops in France as of October 10.

After suspending the service in less than two months after its launch in January, Keplerk says his customers will be able to buy Bitcoin from tobacco buyers in coupons of 50, 100 or 250 euros, according to French news channel BFM TV on October 10.

According to the report, Bitcoin payments in all 5,200 locations will be possible through Keplerk's partner, Bimedia, which will provide payment terminals.

As already mentioned, Keplerk's initial launch in January 2019 was reported to have concerned only six tobacco shops, while other publications reported that 24 shops had participated in the programme. Meanwhile, Keplerk co-founder Adil Zakhar stated that the company planned to expand the project to 6,500 tobacco shops by February, despite reports that the French central bank did not support this initiative.
