American protests and crypto

The United States has witnessed the biggest protests in years after the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis. Some compare them to those after the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. The public crypt has been drowned out.

Crypto personalities, such as President Binance Changpang Zhao, responded via Twitter after six days of mass protests:

"Bitcoin is a peaceful protest"

Ripple's CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, also responded to the protests via Twitter, stating that he stands in solidarity "with all those who are fighting to save a black life".

Several posters referring to Bitcoin and other crypto have been posted on social networking sites.

The debate continues, as do the protests to which the governors responded by announcing curfews in several states at the weekend. 75 cities across the country have joined in the protests against police violence.

The political turmoil led several local businesses and individuals to switch to decentralised digital currencies.

In Latin America, cryptographic currencies played a role in the protests that took place in the last quarter of 2019 in Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.
